Happy graduation and congratulations to my baby bro, Mico!

I spent the past weekend in Chicago (or Evanston, more specifically – it was the coast of the great lakes, so hey) for Mico’s graduation from Northwestern University. It was kind of an up and down journey for my creative, musically inclined brother to try majoring in Economics, and then Math, and then both, but he did it! And now I get to try to push him into graphic design while our dad tries to get him into the corporate world 🙂

Speaking of dad, late happy father’s day to my wonderful dad, who graciously gave BOTH his kids a debt free life post-college! Thank you, thank you, thank you always, mom and dad.

Here they are, in case you weren’t aware of how cute my parents are:

My family is all about food. We celebrate with food, use it as an excuse to get together (and sometimes, use getting together as an excuse to eat – nom nom nom). So while we were in Chicago, we ate at my favorite FAVORITE Joe’s Stone Crabs (the biggest reason I’m bummed my brother graduated – no more trips to Chicago). If you like seafood and you’ve never tried these babies – please go:

They also have absolutely the best key lime pie I’ve ever had in my life. I don’t even like key lime pie – never did because of that gross, artificial sweetener after taste it leaves in your mouth. But then I went to Joe’s and wow. It’s literally heaven in a slice. And I never say that about food so you know it’s true.

When we got back to CT, guess what – more food! My dad in the past years has started watching the Food Network while walking on the treadmill, and has become quite a chef for it! He loves going to restaurants (especially by Mario Batali) and then seeing what he can recreate. So after going to Tarry Lodge in Port Chester, he concocted this specialty – crab and avocado with truffle dressing.

I could go on and on about the rest of the places we ate this trip, but this is actually supposed to be a congrats to my brother so – congrats Mico! May there be many yums to come 🙂
