So I said I was going to go back and start blogging some of the weddings from last year that I haven’t – which are plentiful – and today I begin! Hey, it gives me something to do during slow season.
This is the wedding of Amelia and Mike! You might remember them from their hot sauce engagement. They got married last summer on a rainy rainy Saturday in the backyard of Mike’s parents house in Milton, MA.
It was one of those incredible weddings where it was all outdoors and it rained most of the day and lots of brides (but none of MY brides ;)) would probably be bawling – but Amelia and Mike were completely relaxed, laid back, jokey, funny and just plain awesome. Amelia started the day getting ready at Aura Salon in Quincy with all her girlies. They chowed down and giggled lots during their prep and I knew I loved them all immediately.
Amelia and Mike didn’t wait til Amelia walked the aisle to see each other – in fact, they didn’t even do a first look. The two of them helped each other dress in the upstairs of Mike’s parents house while the guests trickled in and milled around, enjoying the food and drink and company.
Amelia and her sister allowed me the honor of documenting them shaving their legs together in the bath, something that was apparently a regular occurrence. 
Amelia and Mike constructed the whole ceremony themselves, which included an elaborately set up array of chairs in concentric circles outside with two aisles. It took a long time to set up and it poured, all morning. The maid of honor got out to coordinate people to keep the chairs dry and the whole ceremony was pushed back almost an hour while we all obsessively watched weather.com waiting to see when the rain would stop. Was there panic? Anxiety? Stress like whoa? Not even a little. Amelia and Mike practiced their knot making ceremony upstairs, and all the guests continued to chow and chat under the shelter of the reception tent and many colorful umbrellas. 
And at last – the ceremony! Look at that set up. Amelia and Mike entered the center of the circle simultaneously for opposite sides, escorted by their parents. The ceremony was broken into 4 parts, and at the end of every part, the two turned in a quarter circle so that, by the end of the ceremony, they had faced everyone.
They had a beautiful ring warming that they also devised, which was largely why the ceremony could not be moved. Two long ribbons – one blue and one yellow – had been run in opposite directions around the circle and the rings were passed along them so that every guest could touch them before they ended up in the center with Amelia and Mike. At that point, Amelia and Mike exchanged rings and tied the two ribbons together in a complex knot (thus, the pre-ceremony practice). 
I wish I could recite the vows they wrote and exchanged – or the ceremony as a whole – because it was just beautiful and funny, and very very them. A + M – I cried a little during your vows, not going to lie. 
Amelia had gotten Mike this card a couple days before (before the weather hit) and wouldn’t you know, it was very fitting – especially since they had the same umbrella!
Sparkler exit! Which turned into sparklers on the dance floor. Congrats (again!) Amelia and Mike on a beautiful and amazing wedding!
